About Congress

Relevance

In Kazakhstan, as in the rest of the world, a high-quality environment and a solution to existing environmental problems are gaining more and more importance and relevance. As a result, over the past 3 years, Kazakhstan has been undergoing a major environmental reform, which is focused on introducing the best international practices, in particular, the principles of the OECD countries in the field of ecology and sustainable development. The success of the reform will largely depend on the consolidated actions of the Government, which should lead to the transformation of the economy and its transition not only to low-carbon development, but also to an increase in knowledge-intensive and technological industries. It is clear that this cannot be achieved only through the efforts of the Ministry of Ecology and requires support from the economic and industrial blocks of the Government. In addition, the environmental reform will require support and understanding from the top management of large industrial companies and the public, whose role in the new Environmental Code is given great importance. In this regard, it is necessary to create a wide expert dialogue platform for the exchange of knowledge, experience and values in the field of ecology and sustainable development, which will involve representatives of the public sector, business and the population. Unfortunately, now such a platform has not been formed in Kazakhstan. There are highly specialized platforms where experts from only one sector or sphere gather, often specialized without the participation of political civil servants and the interested public. These include: Green energy & waste recycling forum “(GEWR), dedicated primarily to waste recycling, International Summit on Renewable Energy, International Business Festival on Renewable Energy and others. In addition to narrow-industry forums, environmental issues from the perspective of industry are discussed at separate sessions of the forum of the KAZENERGY Association, the mining and geological forum MINEX-Kazakhstan, the International Mining and Metallurgical Congress and others. Economic and financial aspects of environmental issues are discussed at the Astana Economic Forum. Thus, companies of the green sector, industrialists, economists and politicians, eco-activists do not have a common dialogue platform to form a consolidated position on sustainable development issues and develop recommendations for achieving the goals set by the country’s leadership.

In this regard, the ECOJER Association sees expediency in creating a consolidating expert dialogue platform in the form of the ECOJER International Congress
(hereinafter – Congress “ECOJER”).
